Hey everyone! It's good to be back on the Craft Smith blog today. Summer is flying by, can you believe it's halfway over??! I have been busy and have been up to some fun stuff, hopefully you have been too!
Last week I was able to spend a few days and nights camping with our church girls group. They asked me to come and help do 4 crafts with 30+ girls. Only I would think that's no big deal, right?! Ha ha. It was SO fun! We headed off to camp on Monday with a car load...they couldn't believe how many craft supplies I drug along. ;)
I did 4 different crafts with the girls. DIY Flashlights covered with duct tape, washi tape and paint pens. Mini Journals with Instax photos on the cover and washi tape covered pens. Braided Water Bottle Holders and Wooden Sailboats. (The theme of the week had a nautical theme.) The girls went crazy over them! Really, any of these crafts would be fun summer activities for kids. I raided Michaels and they had almost everything I needed. It was SO fun to share my love of crafting with these sweet, gracious girls. It really is my passion!
When I came home and made it to my craft room, I had vacation on my brain. Summer really is so busy and so many of our activities involve traveling and being on the go. I created the perfect summer travel journal made out of what else but .99 flip flops! I really did feel pretty creative pulling this project off! ;) I was walking through Walmart and walked by a huge display of .99 cent flip flops of all sizes and colors. My mind instantly pictured the Craft Smith Pacific Cove paper pad and I grabbed a size 9/10 kids RED pair knowing exactly what I would be using it for. If you don't have the Pacific Cove pad yet, you can still get it now at Michaels in the Hot Buy section!
For the front of my album, I wrapped the strap with some blue twine ribbon and made a cute tag to tie on the front. I used some cork stickers and washi tape to accent the Pacific Cove paper tag. I love the colors in this Pacific Cove line, perfect for any kind of travel photos.
For the accordion piece in between the flip flops, I cut down 4 pieces of 6x12 paper and scored all of them every 3 inches. I glued them back to back (to make it double sided) and then overlapped two pieces to make one long strip of doubled sided, accordion folded paper. Getting the paper to stick to the flip flops was a little tricky, none of my trusty adhesives worked! Included my never fail Scor-Tape. But guess what did work...my stapler. Since the flip flops were just a little thicker than my standard staples, I was able to staple the paper to the flip flops without the staples coming through the other side.
The inside of the journal was embellished very simply with washi tape, stickers and my date stamp. I wanted this to be something that could be taken on the go. How cute would some Instax photos be on these pages?!
I love how it turned out and may be sending it with my boys when they go to "Cousins Camp" at my parents house soon. They are always on adventures with them, this would be a fun way to document their journey.
Thanks for coming by the blog today, I hope you liked this creative album idea! I'll be back next week with MORE Craft Smith inspiration. And don't forget, we have NEW paper pads coming out in August so stay tuned!
